Bowie, MD (February 22, 2025) – Three people were hospitalized following a collision late Friday night involving a Prince George’s County Fire Department (PGFD) ambulance and a civilian vehicle on Crain Hwy near Harbour Way.

Emergency responders arrived at the scene around 11:30 p.m. to find a vehicle overturned off the roadway. Medics and fire crews worked to assist those suffering from injuries after the collision. Officials confirmed that two PGFD personnel inside the ambulance and one civilian from the other vehicle were transported to a local hospital for medical evaluation.

Authorities have not yet confirmed whether the ambulance was responding to an emergency at the time of the crash or if its lights and sirens were activated. The Prince George’s County Police Department (PGPD) is leading the investigation to determine the cause of the collision.

Our thoughts are with those injured in this accident, and we hope for their full recovery.

Emergency Vehicle Accidents in Maryland

Accidents involving ambulances and emergency vehicles are particularly concerning as they often occur at high speeds or during urgent responses. Maryland law requires motorists to yield to emergency vehicles and to move over or slow down when approaching stopped emergency responders.

According to Maryland traffic regulations, failing to move over for emergency vehicles can result in fines and license points. In cases where such violations lead to a crash, injuries, or fatalities, penalties increase significantly.

Victims of serious vehicle accidents—especially those involving emergency responders—may face medical expenses, lost wages, and long-term rehabilitation. If negligence played a role in the crash, injured parties may have the right to seek compensation for their injuries and damages.
