Boston, MA (October 6, 2024) – A serious construction accident occurred early Saturday morning on the westbound side of the Massachusetts Turnpike, resulting in injuries to two workers. The incident took place around 2:30 a.m. at the Beacon Street overpass, where a Nissan Pathfinder SUV entered a designated work zone and collided with an elevator scissor lift.
According to Massachusetts State Police, the work zone was established in the center and right lanes of the highway. Following the collision, both workers were transported by Boston EMS to local hospitals, where they are being treated for serious injuries. In response to the incident, officials closed all westbound lanes of the Turnpike until shortly before 4 a.m. to ensure the safety of motorists, investigators, and highway workers.
The driver of the Nissan, identified as 32-year-old Pedro Campos of Wellesley Hills, is facing charges of operating under the influence of liquor and negligent operation of a motor vehicle. Campos is expected to be arraigned in Brighton District Court on Monday.
