Bonita Springs, FL (October 8, 2024) – A tragic accident occurred early Tuesday morning when an SUV rear-ended a semi-truck that was stopped on the shoulder of I-75 South at mile marker 118. The incident was reported to the Florida Highway Patrol, which confirmed that one person has died as a result of the crash.
Emergency responders from Bonita Springs Fire, Estero Fire Rescue, and Lee County EMS were dispatched to the scene at approximately 12:56 a.m. Upon arrival, they found that the driver of the SUV, a 33-year-old man from Fort Myers, was the sole occupant of the vehicle. Unfortunately, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to troopers, the SUV was traveling in the outside lane of I-75 when it failed to negotiate a curve in the road. The vehicle then entered the outside paved shoulder before colliding with the rear of the semi-truck. Fortunately, the driver and passenger inside the semi-truck were not injured in the incident.
As a result of the crash, the southbound lanes of I-75 are partially blocked, causing delays for motorists in the area. The Florida Highway Patrol is continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the accident.
