Bluffton, IN (January 10, 2025) – A tragic accident occurred on Wednesday morning at approximately 9:18 AM at the intersection of US 224 and County Rd 450 E. Emergency crews were dispatched to the scene following a report of a severe collision involving a passenger vehicle and a semi-truck.
The investigation revealed that Rebecca L. Meier, a 45-year-old resident of Bluffton, IN, was traveling northbound on County Rd 450 E at a high rate of speed. Failing to stop at the stop sign at the intersection with US 224, she entered the path of a semi-trailer traveling eastbound. The semi-truck, driven by 29-year-old Travis D. Fett of Auburn, IN, was struck near its rear trailer tires by Meier’s vehicle. Tragically, the semi dragged the car several hundred feet before coming to a stop. Following the impact, Meier’s vehicle caught fire. She did not survive the injuries sustained in the crash.
Responders included the Wells County Sheriff’s Office, Ossian Police Department, Markle Police Department, Indiana State Police, Ossian Fire Rescue, Bluffton Fire, and the Wells County Coroner’s Office.
