Blanco County, TX (March 7, 2025) – A tragic three-vehicle crash in Blanco County claimed the lives of three people, including a 4-year-old child, and left multiple others seriously injured.
The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) reported that the accident occurred around noon on March 5 at the intersection of FM 1323 and U.S. 281. A Chevrolet Trax was traveling on FM 1323 when it attempted to turn left onto the northbound lanes of U.S. 281. Investigators say the driver failed to yield, causing the vehicle to collide with a Toyota Tacoma traveling southbound on U.S. 281.
The force of the crash caused the Tacoma to spin into the northbound lane, where it was struck by a Toyota 4Runner heading in that direction. Emergency crews responded to the scene, but three people lost their lives in the crash. The victims were identified as 27-year-old Annett Morales, 4-year-old Carlos Morales IV, who were passengers in the Tacoma, and 71-year-old Larry Higgins, the driver of the 4Runner.
The drivers of the Tacoma and Chevrolet Trax, along with a passenger in the 4Runner, sustained incapacitating injuries and were transported to a hospital for treatment.
Authorities are still investigating the circumstances of the crash.
Our deepest condolences go out to the families of the victims, and we hope for the full recovery of those injured.
Deadly Collisions on Texas Highways
Highways like U.S. 281 are common sites for high-impact collisions due to their speed limits and heavy traffic flow. Left-turn accidents, such as this tragic crash, are particularly dangerous because they involve vehicles crossing lanes of moving traffic, which increases the risk of broadside or secondary collisions.
Failure to yield is a leading cause of serious crashes in Texas, especially at intersections where drivers must judge the speed and distance of oncoming vehicles. These types of accidents often result in devastating consequences, as seen in this case, where multiple lives were lost in a matter of seconds.
Families who suffer the loss of loved ones in fatal crashes not only face emotional pain but also financial burdens from medical expenses, funeral costs, and other damages. Texas law allows surviving family members to seek legal recourse when negligence contributes to a fatal accident. Holding responsible parties accountable can help bring closure and financial support during an incredibly difficult time.
