The incident took place around 8:30 p.m. when the woman was reportedly crossing the street and was struck by a vehicle.
Authorities have identified the driver involved in the accident as a 68-year-old Benton Harbor man, who is reportedly Benton Harbor Commissioner-at-Large Ron Singleton. It has been confirmed that Singleton was operating a private vehicle at the time of the incident, and he is cooperating with the ongoing investigation. Fortunately, he did not sustain any injuries in the crash.
Following the collision, the injured woman was transported to a local hospital for treatment. Sadly, she later succumbed to her injuries. Out of respect for her family, police have stated that they will not be releasing her name at this time.
