Benton Harbor, MI (October 10, 2024) – A tragic vehicle accident occurred early Tuesday morning, resulting in the death of a 20-year-old man from Coloma. The incident took place around 6:30 a.m. on Paw Paw Avenue near Riverside Road in Berrien County’s Benton Township.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the young man was driving north on Paw Paw Avenue when he lost control of his vehicle. The car crossed the center line and collided broadside with an oncoming SUV. Emergency responders arrived at the scene promptly and transported the Coloma man to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased.
The other driver involved in the crash, a 62-year-old woman from Stevensville, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was also hospitalized for treatment. Fortunately, both drivers were believed to have been wearing their seat belts at the time of the accident. Authorities indicated that alcohol and drugs were not suspected factors in the crash; however, speeding is believed to have contributed to the unfortunate incident.
