Belleview, FL (February 13, 2025) – A tragic accident occurred early Wednesday morning when a 66-year-old woman was struck and killed by a CSX train near Southeast Front Road and Robinson Road in Belleview.
The Belleview Police Department responded to the scene shortly after 1 a.m. Officers identified the victim as Rose Mullins, a resident of a nearby assisted living facility.
According to officials, the train conductor reported seeing an individual walk onto the tracks before stopping, lying down, and holding onto the rails while looking at the oncoming train. Despite repeated horn blasts, the woman did not move, and the train, traveling between 40 and 45 mph, was unable to stop in time.
Authorities are now investigating how Mullins accessed the tracks and are working with the Florida Department of Children and Families, the Department of Elder Affairs, and the assisted living facility where she lived.

Incidents like this raise concerns about safety protocols in assisted living facilities, especially regarding residents with cognitive impairments or mobility issues. Ensuring proper supervision and secure environments can help prevent similar tragedies.
