Bellefontaine, OH (January 21, 2025) – The Ohio State Highway Patrol’s Marysville Post is investigating a serious two-vehicle collision that occurred Monday evening on County Rd 10 near Township Rd 179. The crash left both drivers with significant injuries.

The accident occurred at approximately 6:20 p.m. and involved a 2003 Honda Accord and a 2019 Buick Encore. According to preliminary reports, 20-year-old Chloe L. Gallagher of Bellefontaine was driving the Honda northwest on County Rd 10 when her vehicle collided head-on with the Buick, which was traveling southeast. The Buick was driven by 58-year-old Sharon A. Schlabach of West Liberty.

Emergency responders from multiple agencies arrived on the scene. Gallagher was life-flighted to Grant Medical Center by MedFlight, while Schlabach was transported by Tri-Valley EMS to Mary Rutan Hospital for treatment of serious injuries.

Investigators have determined that alcohol was not a factor in the crash, and both drivers were wearing seat belts at the time of the collision. The investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing.

Our thoughts are with both individuals as they recover from this unfortunate incident.

Head-on Collisions in Ohio

Head-on collisions, such as the one on County Rd 10, are among the most dangerous types of crashes, often leading to severe injuries or fatalities. These accidents frequently occur on rural roads where traffic flows in opposite directions without physical barriers.

Key factors contributing to head-on collisions include distracted driving, speeding, and improper passing. While this particular incident did not involve alcohol and both drivers were wearing seat belts, it underscores the importance of defensive driving and remaining alert on rural roads.

For those injured in serious crashes, prompt medical attention and thorough documentation of the incident are crucial. Recovery often involves addressing not only physical injuries but also emotional and financial challenges. Accessing local resources and legal guidance can help victims navigate these difficulties effectively.
