Beeville, TX (November 13, 2024) – A tragic four-vehicle collision on Interstate 37 South near mile marker 49 claimed the life of a 68-year-old man, identified as Eustacio Cantu of Elmendorf, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS). The incident occurred on Monday and remains under investigation by Beeville Highway Patrol officers.
Troopers report that Cantu was driving southbound in the outside lane when his vehicle veered onto the shoulder and struck a guardrail. The impact caused the truck to move into the middle of the interstate, where it was struck by another vehicle. Subsequently, a different truck collided with Cantu’s vehicle, followed by a G-series van driven by a man from Buda, which struck the side of Cantu’s truck. The vehicle eventually came to rest in the outside lane of I-37.
Justice of the Peace Donnie Watkins pronounced Cantu deceased at the scene. Another driver involved in the crash was transported to Christus Spohn Hospital in Beeville for treatment of injuries. No further details on the condition of the injured driver have been released at this time.
