Beaver, UT (February 17, 2025) – A driver is in critical condition after a high-speed wrong-way crash involving multiple vehicles, including two semis, on Interstate 15 early Sunday morning.
According to the Utah Highway Patrol (UHP), the incident began around 2:18 a.m. when a trooper spotted a 2006 Cadillac traveling north in the southbound lanes of I-15, approximately four miles north of Parowan. When authorities attempted to intercept the driver, they accelerated to 90 mph and swerved toward the trooper. A PIT maneuver was attempted but was unsuccessful, and the suspect then sped away, reaching speeds of approximately 120 mph.
Troopers pursued the vehicle from the northbound lanes while coordinating with the Beaver County Sheriff’s Office. The pursuit ended near Lees Spring Wash, about 13 miles south of Beaver, when the Cadillac swerved to avoid but ultimately collided with a 2024 Freightliner semi. The impact caused both vehicles to cross the median into the northbound lanes, triggering a chain reaction.
A 2014 Toyota then struck the trailer of the Freightliner, followed by a second semi, a 2011 Freightliner, colliding with the first semi, splitting it in half.
Emergency responders transported the Cadillac driver to a nearby hospital in critical condition. Authorities have not released further details on other injuries, and the crash remains under investigation.
Our thoughts are with those injured, and we hope for a full recovery.
Wrong-Way Crashes in Utah
Wrong-way driving incidents, like the one on I-15, are among the most dangerous types of collisions due to the high-speed, head-on impact potential. These crashes often occur due to impaired driving, fatigue, or confusion on highway ramps. Law enforcement officers frequently attempt to stop wrong-way drivers before they cause catastrophic accidents, but intervention is often difficult at high speeds.
Utah’s highway safety efforts focus on preventing wrong-way crashes by using warning signs, highway patrol monitoring, and driver awareness campaigns. Victims of these incidents may face severe injuries, extensive medical costs, and financial burdens due to lost wages and vehicle damage. Seeking legal guidance can help crash victims understand their rights and secure compensation for their losses.
