Baychester, NY (December 1, 2024) – A 60-year-old man tragically lost his life early Saturday morning when a car veered off the road and plowed into several parked vehicles, ultimately striking the pedestrian on Eastchester Rd in the Baychester neighborhood of the Bronx.
The incident occurred just before 12:10 a.m. when a 24-year-old BMW driver was traveling east on Eastchester Rd near Givan Ave. The BMW collided with a pickup truck heading north on Givan Ave. The force of the impact caused the BMW to careen off course, heading straight for a line of parked cars, which included an Acura, a Nissan Murano, and a pedestrian standing near the vehicles.
The collision with the parked cars and the man caused the BMW to continue traveling down the street, crashing into a Honda Accord and a Toyota Camry before coming to a stop. The victim, a 60-year-old man whose name has not yet been released, was found critically injured at the scene.
Emergency responders arrived quickly, rushing the man to Jacobi Medical Center for treatment, but despite their efforts, he could not be saved. The driver of the BMW was also transported to the hospital with injuries. Meanwhile, the driver of the pickup truck involved in the crash did not stop and was last seen heading north on Givan Ave, according to police reports. Authorities are currently working to track down the hit-and-run driver.
