Baton Rouge, LA (February 22, 2025) – A multi-vehicle crash involving an 18-wheeler left one person injured Friday morning on Interstate 12 West at Essen Lane. The Baton Rouge Police Department (BRPD) and emergency medical services responded to the scene shortly after the crash, which occurred around 8:30 a.m.
According to police, the crash involved four vehicles, including a stopped 18-wheeler. Officials stated that a vehicle collided with the rear of the truck, triggering a chain reaction as two other vehicles sideswiped each other while attempting to avoid the crash but ultimately struck the 18-wheeler as well.
EMS transported one individual to the hospital in stable condition. Authorities confirmed that two vehicles required towing while the 18-wheeler remained at the scene. No charges have been filed at this time, and an investigation remains ongoing.
Traffic in the area was disrupted for an extended period while crews worked to clear the wreckage. Officials have urged drivers to remain cautious when approaching heavy traffic and stopped vehicles on the interstate.
Our thoughts are with the injured victim, and we wish them a full recovery.
Multi-Vehicle Crashes in Louisiana
Interstate highways, such as I-12, often see high traffic volumes, increasing the risk of multi-car collisions, particularly when large commercial vehicles like 18-wheelers are involved. Due to the size and weight of commercial vehicles, rear-end crashes involving stopped trucks can be particularly severe.
Common causes of crashes on major roadways include speeding, distracted driving, and following too closely. Sudden stops and lane changes at high speeds can lead to dangerous pile-ups, especially in congested areas. Drivers are encouraged to maintain safe distances and remain alert to changing traffic conditions.
Injury accidents like this can lead to medical expenses, lost wages, and extensive vehicle damage. Understanding legal options is crucial for those involved in crashes, as insurance claims and liability can be complex when multiple vehicles are affected. Seeking medical attention after a crash is always recommended, even if injuries appear minor at first.
If you or a loved one has been injured in a multi-vehicle accident, support is available. Legal and medical professionals can assist in determining the best course of action following a crash.
