Bates County, MO (February 19, 2025) – A three-truck collision on southbound I-49 at mile marker 145.2 resulted in injuries and vehicle damage Tuesday afternoon.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the crash occurred at approximately 2:53 p.m. when a 2025 Freightliner Cascadia, driven by a 52-year-old man from Burlington, IA, struck the rear of a 2012 International Harvester. Following the impact, a 2024 Freightliner Cascadia, driven by a 38-year-old man from Dallas, TX, swerved to avoid the collision but veered off the right side of the roadway.

The driver of the 2025 Freightliner suffered injuries and was transported by Bates County EMS to Bates County Memorial Hospital for treatment. The other two drivers were not reported as injured. All three commercial trucks sustained moderate damage and were towed from the scene by J’s Southland.

Authorities are investigating what led to the crash. No further details have been released at this time.

Our thoughts are with the injured driver, and we hope for a full recovery.

Trucking Accidents on Missouri Highways

Missouri highways, including I-49, see heavy truck traffic, increasing the risk of multi-vehicle crashes. Rear-end collisions among large commercial vehicles can be particularly dangerous due to the force of impact and the potential for chain-reaction crashes.

Factors such as traffic congestion, sudden braking, and driver fatigue can contribute to these incidents. Commercial truck drivers are required to maintain safe following distances, especially at highway speeds, to prevent rear-end collisions. In cases where drivers must make sudden maneuvers to avoid a crash, like the third truck in this incident, the risk of running off the road or causing secondary collisions increases.

For those involved in truck accidents, the aftermath can be overwhelming, with medical bills, vehicle damage, and insurance claims adding to the challenges. Seeking the right resources and understanding available legal options can be crucial for recovery.
