Barry, MO (December 29, 2024) – A collision involving two vehicles occurred late Saturday morning at the intersection of North City Highway 37 and Washington in Purdy. The crash, reported at approximately 11:50 AM, resulted in injuries and significant vehicle damage.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported that the accident happened when a westbound 2006 Honda Ridgeline, driven by a 17-year-old male juvenile from Carthage, failed to stop at a stop sign and collided with a southbound 2008 Dodge Ram driven by a 34-year-old man from Purdy. The Honda Ridgeline sustained total damage and was towed by Thomas Towing, while the Dodge Ram, with moderate damage, was driven from the scene.
A 15-year-old female occupant of the Honda Ridgeline suffered injuries and was transported via a private vehicle to CoxHealth Hospital in Monett for treatment. Both occupants of the Ridgeline were reported to be wearing seatbelts, which likely prevented more severe injuries. The driver of the Dodge Ram was uninjured.
Authorities are investigating the incident to determine additional contributing factors. Our thoughts are with the injured individual, and we hope for a swift recovery.
Intersections and Road Safety in Missouri
Intersections, particularly those controlled by stop signs, are frequent sites of traffic accidents. Failing to adhere to traffic controls, such as stop signs, remains one of the leading causes of intersection crashes in Missouri. Drivers must exercise caution and remain vigilant to avoid such collisions, especially at busy rural junctions like North City Highway 37 and Washington in Purdy.
Missouri traffic safety officials emphasize the importance of defensive driving and awareness at intersections. Ensuring vehicles are properly stopped and yielding the right of way to other road users can significantly reduce the risk of accidents. Rural intersections can be especially challenging due to high-speed traffic and limited visibility.
For individuals injured in traffic accidents, dealing with the aftermath often involves navigating medical care, insurance claims, and vehicle repairs. Seeking legal assistance or guidance can help victims secure the compensation needed to recover from the financial and emotional impacts of an accident.
