Baltimore County, MD (February 24, 2025)  – A multi-vehicle crash early Sunday morning on Interstate 95 southbound near Arbutus left two people injured, according to the Maryland State Police.

The crash occurred at approximately 2:50 a.m. on February 23 when a 2008 Mercury Mountaineer, driven by 27-year-old Persia Ransford of Takoma Park, collided with the rear of a tractor-trailer. Shortly after, a 2016 Toyota Corolla, driven by 53-year-old Luis Del Cid of Middle River, crashed into the Mercury in the southbound lanes.

Emergency responders transported both Ransford and Del Cid to Shock Trauma in Baltimore for treatment of their injuries. Their current conditions have not been disclosed.

Authorities closed the affected portion of I-95 for several hours to conduct a post-crash investigation. Police believe impairment may have been a contributing factor, though the investigation is ongoing. Any potential charges will be determined pending the outcome of the investigation.

Our thoughts are with the injured victims, and we hope for their full recovery.

Highway Accidents in Maryland

Maryland highways, including I-95, are frequent sites of serious collisions due to high-speed travel, heavy truck traffic, and driver-related factors. Rear-end crashes involving large vehicles, such as tractor-trailers, often result in significant injuries due to the size and weight differences between vehicles.

Many highway accidents occur due to distracted driving, impairment, or reckless behavior. When alcohol or drugs are involved, the risk of severe or fatal injuries increases. Victims of impaired driving crashes often face long-term medical expenses, rehabilitation, and lost wages.

Under Maryland law, those injured in accidents caused by negligent drivers may be entitled to financial compensation for medical costs, lost income, and pain and suffering. Seeking legal assistance can help ensure that victims receive the support they need.
