Babson Park, FL (October 21, 2024) – A tragic motorcycle accident occurred early Saturday morning directly in front of the Babson Park station of the Polk County Fire Rescue Department. At approximately 8:37 a.m., a collision involving a Harley Davidson motorcycle and a Mazda pickup truck resulted in the death of a Fort Myers man and left his passenger in critical condition.
The motorcycle, driven by 53-year-old Kenneth Ellefson, reportedly collided head-on with a 1999 Mazda pickup truck in the northbound lane of Scenic Highway. Witnesses described the aftermath as a scene of devastation, with the motorcycle reduced to an unrecognizable hunk of twisted metal. Paramedics from the nearby fire rescue station responded promptly but were unable to save Ellefson’s life at the scene.
While Ellefson was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, his passenger, who was wearing a helmet, was transported to a local hospital in critical condition. The driver and passenger of the pickup truck, who appeared to have been wearing their seatbelts, were treated at the scene and subsequently released.
