Avoyelles Parish, LA (October 22, 2024) – A tragic accident occurred on October 19, resulting in the death of a local man. At approximately 6:30 p.m., Louisiana State Police Troop E responded to a fatal two-vehicle crash on Louisiana Highway 107 near Center Point.
Preliminary investigations revealed that 62-year-old Harold P. Gaspard of Marksville was driving a 1998 Dodge pickup truck southbound on Louisiana Highway 107 when, for reasons still under investigation, his vehicle crossed the centerline into the northbound lane. This led to a head-on collision with a 2007 Chevrolet.
Gaspard, who was wearing his seatbelt, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Chevrolet, who was also restrained, suffered minor injuries and was treated accordingly. Routine toxicology samples were obtained from both drivers and submitted for analysis.
As the investigation continues, Louisiana State Police emphasize that distracted and inattentive driving remains a leading cause of accidents in the state. They urge all motorists to stay alert while driving, as a lapse in awareness can have deadly consequences.
