Austin, TX (December 04, 2024) – A house fire erupted in southwest Austin Tuesday night, sending emergency crews from the Austin Fire Department (AFD) and Oak Hill Fire Department to the scene at approximately 10:30 p.m. The fire occurred in the 8800 block of Thunderbird Road, near State Highway 290 and Scenic Brook Drive.

They quickly focused their efforts on extinguishing the fire on the exterior of the home, ensuring that surrounding structures were safely evacuated. However, a man sustained injuries after attempting to flee his home by running through the flames. He was promptly treated by emergency responders and transported to a medical facility for care.
Further investigation inside the home revealed additional fire on both the first and second floors, which was also successfully extinguished by fire crews. AFD continued to conduct thorough checks for hot spots to confirm that the fire was completely out.
The possible cause of the fire is believed to be downed electrical wires. Fortunately, no further injuries were reported, and the situation has been contained. The fire remains under investigation by AFD.
Our thoughts are with the injured man, and we hope for his full recovery.
