Aurora, CO (February 23, 2025) – An RTD bus carrying approximately 15 passengers crashed into a pond following a collision with a sedan in Aurora on Saturday afternoon.

The Aurora Police Department reported that the accident occurred around 4:45 p.m. near the intersection of East Colorado Avenue and South Dayton Street. The impact of the crash forced the bus off the roadway and into a small pond. Emergency responders arrived quickly to assess the situation and assist those involved.

Authorities confirmed that only one person, the bus driver, sustained injuries and was transported to a local hospital with injuries. None of the passengers or the sedan’s driver reported injuries. The driver of the sedan remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation.

Officials have not yet determined the cause of the collision or who was at fault. Dayton Street remained closed in both directions at Colorado Avenue while crews worked to remove the bus from the water.

Risks of Bus Accidents in Urban Areas

Accidents involving public transportation, such as this RTD bus crash in Aurora, can pose serious risks to passengers, drivers, and nearby motorists. While buses are designed for safety, their size and weight make them vulnerable to severe collisions, especially at intersections or on high-traffic roads. Factors such as driver distraction, weather conditions, and traffic violations can all contribute to these types of accidents.

For passengers involved in bus accidents, injuries can range from minor to severe, depending on the force of impact and whether seat belts are available. Even when injuries are not immediately apparent, individuals should seek medical evaluation to rule out delayed symptoms, such as whiplash or internal injuries.

Navigating liability after a public transit accident can be complex, as multiple parties—including bus operators, city transit agencies, and other drivers—may share responsibility. Understanding legal rights and available compensation options is essential for those injured in a public transportation accident.

If you or a loved one has been injured in a bus crash in Colorado, knowing your legal options can be crucial to ensuring a smooth recovery process.
