Atlanta, GA (December 16, 2024) – A 78-year-old woman tragically lost her life after being rescued from a house fire on Seventh St NW near St. James Ave early Sunday morning. Atlanta Fire Rescue crews were called to the scene at approximately 12:13 a.m. and arrived just four minutes later to find the blaze rapidly spreading.
The fire had engulfed the left side of the home, extended to a car in the driveway, and was threatening nearby trees when firefighters arrived. While part of the crew worked to control the flames, others broke into the home through a window to rescue the victim, identified by family members as Mamie Farley.
Farley was transported to Grady Memorial Hospital but succumbed to her injuries shortly after. According to her daughter, who spoke off-camera, Farley was likely asleep when the fire began.
Neighbors expressed their sorrow over the loss. “This is so very heartbreaking just to see her house. I can’t imagine,” said J.M. Dawson, a nearby resident. “Brought me to tears because this is very devastating. Not just as their mom, it’s a neighbor, and it’s close to our house.”
The cause of the fire is under investigation by Atlanta Fire Rescue. Further details have yet to be released.
Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with Mamie Farley’s family and loved ones during this tragic time.
