Athol, ID (December 28, 2024) – The Idaho State Police (ISP) is investigating a fatal two-vehicle crash that occurred Friday evening, December 27, at approximately 7:27 PM on US Route 95 at Parks Road, just south of Athol in Kootenai County.
According to authorities, the crash involved a 2012 Toyota Tacoma, driven by a 23-year-old male from Trego, MT, traveling northbound on US95. A 2013 Nissan Pathfinder, occupied by a 75-year-old male driver and a 92-year-old female passenger from Coeur d’Alene, ID, was attempting to turn southbound onto US95 from Parks Rd when it was struck by the Toyota.
Tragically, the female passenger in the Nissan was pronounced deceased at the scene. Both the driver of the Toyota and the driver of the Nissan sustained injuries and were transported to a local hospital via ground ambulance. They are currently reported to be in stable condition.
Authorities confirmed that alcohol and speed were not contributing factors in the crash, and all occupants involved were wearing seatbelts. The Idaho State Police continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding this tragic accident.
