Antrim County, MI (September 25, 2024) – A tragic accident occurred on September 23 at 12:29 PM when the Antrim County Sheriff’s Office responded to a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Alden Highway and Bailey Road in Custer Township.
According to deputies, a 54-year-old man from Mancelona was traveling east on Alden Highway on his 1999 Harley Davidson motorcycle when the motorcycle collided with the side of a southbound semi-truck trailer. The semi-truck, driven by a 61-year-old man from Wyoming, Michigan, reportedly failed to stop at the stop sign at the intersection of Bailey Road and Alden Highway, entering the path of the motorcycle.
The rider of the motorcycle was pronounced dead at the scene, despite wearing a helmet at the time of the accident. Fortunately, the driver of the semi-truck was uninjured. Authorities confirmed that alcohol was not a factor in the crash.
Emergency responders from Kalkaska EMS, the Mancelona Fire Department, Michigan State Police, and Michigan State Motor Carrier assisted at the scene to manage the aftermath of this tragic event.
