Annapolis, MD (September 30, 2024) – A tragic incident occurred in Anne Arundel County when a pedestrian was struck and killed by a Maryland state trooper on Sunday evening. The accident took place at approximately 7:30 p.m. on northbound Solomons Island Road at Route 50.
According to police reports, the trooper was driving an unmarked Ford Explorer when a 32-year-old woman unexpectedly walked into the street and was hit by the vehicle. Following the collision, the trooper immediately exited the car to provide first aid to the woman and called for emergency assistance. Unfortunately, she was pronounced dead at the scene. The trooper was not injured in the incident.
Authorities noted that there was no crosswalk at the location where the woman was struck. As part of standard procedure, the Maryland State Police is conducting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash. The findings will be presented to the Anne Arundel County State’s Attorney’s Office upon completion of the investigation. Additionally, an administrative review will be carried out by the Maryland State Police.
