Anderson, IN (February 19, 2025) – A devastating house fire in Anderson on Tuesday morning claimed the life of one individual and left another injured, according to local authorities.
Firefighters with the Anderson Fire Department (AFD) were dispatched around 11:30 a.m. to a residence in the 2500 block of Thayer Court after reports of a structure fire. Upon arrival, crews found the home fully engulfed in flames.
AFD Chief Dave Cravens confirmed that two people were trapped inside the burning home. Firefighters successfully rescued one of the individuals, who was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. The Madison County Coroner, Adam Matson, identified the deceased victim as 72-year-old Lacey Sawyer Sr.. The exact cause of death is pending further autopsy and toxicology results.
Fire investigators are currently working to determine the cause of the fire. Authorities have not yet released details regarding the condition of the surviving victim.
