Alton Township, MN (January 8, 2025) – A collision involving a dump truck and an SUV occurred Tuesday afternoon at the intersection of Eastbound Highway 14 and 50th St in Alton Township, Waseca County. The crash, which happened around 1:30 p.m., resulted in non-life-threatening injuries to one driver. Emergency responders, including Janesville Fire Department, Waseca County Sheriff’s Office, and North Ambulance, arrived swiftly to assist.
Reports indicate that a 2004 Sterling dump truck was traveling southbound on 50th St when it collided with a 2024 Kia Sportage heading eastbound on Highway 14. The driver of the dump truck, 26-year-old Zack Walter Miller of Madison Lake, MN, was uninjured and did not require medical attention. Airbags in the truck did not deploy, and the driver was confirmed to be wearing a seatbelt.
The driver of the Kia Sportage, 60-year-old Bryan David Schirmacher of Owatonna, MN, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to Owatonna Hospital for treatment. The airbags in the Kia deployed upon impact, and the driver was also reported to be wearing a seatbelt. Officials confirmed that alcohol was not a factor in this accident.
