Alleghany County, VA (January 22, 2025) – A fatal two-vehicle crash occurred early Tuesday morning on Interstate 64, approximately two miles west of Dabney Drive in Alleghany County. Virginia State Police (VSP) responded to the tragic incident, which was reported at 12:53 a.m.
According to authorities, a 2025 Volkswagen Jetta traveling east in the westbound lanes collided head-on with a westbound Kenworth tractor-trailer. The driver of the Volkswagen, identified as 86-year-old Edmond Thomas Floyd of Buena Vista, was not wearing a seatbelt and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the Kenworth tractor-trailer, who was wearing a seatbelt, sustained injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. He was released after receiving medical care.
State troopers are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash, including what led to the Volkswagen traveling in the wrong direction on I-64.
