Alexandria, VA (November 6, 2024) – A tragic five-vehicle crash occurred on the Capital Beltway on Tuesday evening, resulting in one fatality and multiple injuries. The incident took place around 5:33 p.m. in the thru lanes of westbound I-495, near the 176-mile marker, which corresponds to the Telegraph Road exit.
According to Virginia State Police, the crash was initiated when a Dodge Ram struck a Lexus sedan that was stopped in traffic. The impact caused the Lexus to collide with the rear of a Ford F-150, which was also halted due to the traffic conditions. The force of the collision caused the Dodge Ram to go airborne, subsequently hitting a GMC Savana and a Nissan Rogue before coming to rest on its side.
Tragically, a passenger in the Lexus, identified as 69-year-old Lauren Johnson-Lavender from Massachusetts, was pronounced dead at the scene. Three other individuals sustained injuries and were transported to a local hospital for medical care.
