Aitkin County, MN (October 6, 2024) – A devastating car crash occurred on Friday evening on Highway 169 in northeastern Minnesota, resulting in the deaths of two individuals and critical injuries to several others. The collision took place around 5:15 p.m. in Waukenabo Township, approximately 40 minutes south of Grand Rapids.
According to the incident report, four vehicles were involved in the crash: a Chevrolet Suburban pulling a trailer, a GMC Yukon, a Jeep, and a Dodge Ram also pulling a trailer. The Chevrolet Suburban was traveling eastbound on County Road 3 when it failed to stop at the stop sign for Highway 169. At that moment, the GMC Yukon was heading north on Highway 169 and struck the eastbound Suburban, resulting in severe damage.
The impact caused the Yukon to also collide with the Jeep and the Dodge Ram, which were waiting in the westbound lanes. Fortunately, the drivers of the Jeep and the Dodge Ram were not injured in the incident.
Tragically, two passengers in the Suburban, identified as Elizabeth Baldwin, 61, and Marlo Baldwin, 92, lost their lives in the accident. The driver of the Suburban, Roger Walker, 61, sustained life-threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. Authorities indicated that Elizabeth Baldwin was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.
Additionally, three passengers in the Yukon, along with the 44-year-old driver, suffered life-threatening injuries. The critically injured passengers are aged 18, 14, and 11 years old.
The Minnesota State Patrol is currently conducting an investigation into the incident to determine the circumstances surrounding the crash and any contributing factors.
