Abingdon, MD (March 2, 2025) – A late-night house fire in the 3800 block of Hebron Terrace left one person hospitalized and caused an estimated $50,000 in damages, according to the Harford County Department of Emergency Services.
The fire was reported at 11:12 p.m. on Saturday, prompting an immediate response from Volunteer Firefighters from the Abingdon Fire Company and multiple supporting agencies. When the first EMS unit arrived at 11:13 p.m., they confirmed an active fire and two individuals in need of medical attention.
Firefighters arrived at 11:18 p.m. and quickly entered the home to combat the flames. It took a total of 35 firefighters approximately 10 minutes to bring the blaze under control, preventing it from spreading beyond the basement.
EMS treated two individuals at the scene. One, a 59-year-old woman, was transported to Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center for smoke inhalation. The second person declined transport.

Fire Risks and Prevention in Residential Homes
House fires can be devastating, leading to injuries, property loss, and displacement. Electrical failures, like the one that caused this fire, are among the leading causes of home fires in the U.S. Faulty wiring, overloaded circuits, and aging electrical systems can all pose significant risks if not properly maintained.
Fire safety officials recommend regular electrical inspections, avoiding overloaded power strips, and ensuring smoke detectors are installed and functional throughout the home. Quick response from firefighters is often key in minimizing damage, as demonstrated in this incident where crews contained the fire to the basement.
For families affected by fires, recovery can be overwhelming, involving property losses, medical expenses, and temporary housing concerns. Seeking assistance from local disaster relief organizations can provide vital support during such challenging times.
