Frackville, PA (March 10, 2025) – A five-vehicle collision occurred on Interstate 81 earlier Monday morning, resulting in serious injuries. The incident took place on March 10, 2025, in the southbound lanes of I-81 near Frackville.
According to Pennsylvania State Police Frackville, the crash began when a Ford vehicle, traveling southbound behind a Freightliner semi-truck, failed to slow down and collided with the rear of the Freightliner. The impact caused the Ford to come to rest in the middle of both southbound lanes, while the Freightliner moved to the west shoulder of I-81 south, sustaining minor damage.
The driver of the Freightliner, a 48-year-old man, exited his vehicle to check on the two occupants of the Ford. While he was in the roadway, two additional vehicles—a Kia and another Ford—were traveling southbound. The driver of the Kia, a 28-year-old man, did not see the Freightliner driver in the road and was unable to slow down in time, striking him. Upon arrival, police found the Freightliner driver lying in the grass median.
Subsequently, the second Ford vehicle slowed down to avoid debris but collided with the Kia, causing it to veer into the shoulder.
Emergency responders were quick to the scene, providing care to the injured victims. Both the driver of the Kia and the Freightliner driver were transported by EMS with suspected serious injuries. The drivers of the two Ford vehicles did not sustain any injuries. At this time, there is no update on the conditions of the two injured individuals.
