Newton County, MO (March 10, 2025) – A serious two-vehicle crash occurred Sunday morning on Route P, five miles south of Joplin, leaving one driver injured. The accident happened at approximately 10:10 a.m. and required emergency medical response.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, a 2019 Chevy Trax was traveling north when the driver failed to stop at an intersection. As a result, the vehicle entered the path of a westbound 2023 Chevrolet Trailblazer, leading to a collision. The impact caused total damage to the Chevy Trax and extensive damage to the Trailblazer. Both vehicles were towed from the scene by Schrader’s Towing.

Emergency responders arrived quickly to assist the injured driver of the Chevy Trax, a 69-year-old woman from Neosho, MO. She sustained moderate injuries and was transported by Newton County Ambulance to Freeman West Hospital in Joplin for further treatment. The driver of the Trailblazer, a 79-year-old woman from Joplin, did not report any injuries at the scene.

Authorities are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash.

We hope for the injured driver’s swift recovery and remind all motorists to drive cautiously at intersections.

Intersection Accidents in Missouri

Intersections are high-risk areas for vehicle collisions, especially when drivers fail to stop at stop signs or signals. Accidents like the one on Route P often occur due to driver inattention, failure to yield, or misjudging the speed of oncoming vehicles. These crashes can lead to severe injuries and significant vehicle damage.

Missouri traffic laws require drivers to obey all stop signs and signals, yielding the right-of-way when necessary. Failing to stop at an intersection puts both the driver and others on the road in danger. Common factors contributing to intersection crashes include distracted driving, low visibility, and failure to recognize cross traffic.

Victims of intersection collisions may face medical expenses, vehicle repair costs, and emotional distress. In such cases, seeking legal guidance can help ensure they receive the necessary support and compensation.

As law enforcement reviews this crash, all drivers are encouraged to remain vigilant at intersections, come to complete stops, and check for oncoming traffic before proceeding.
