Wrong-Way Collisions in North Carolina
Wrong-way collisions are among the most devastating types of crashes due to the high-speed, head-on impact. These accidents often result in severe injuries or fatalities, as seen in the tragic crash on Highway 70.
Investigations into wrong-way crashes typically focus on factors such as driver impairment, roadway design, and visibility issues. In some cases, drivers may become disoriented due to unclear road signage or other external conditions. However, many incidents involve impaired or distracted drivers who mistakenly enter highways in the wrong direction.
The North Carolina Department of Transportation has implemented measures such as improved signage, rumble strips, and reflective markers to help prevent wrong-way driving. Law enforcement agencies also encourage motorists to report any unusual or dangerous driving behavior to prevent further tragedies on the road.
