Natchitoches Parish, LA (March 9, 2025) – A woman lost her life in a multi-vehicle crash on Louisiana Highway 6 after her vehicle was struck by two trucks, according to the Louisiana State Police (LSP).
The crash occurred at approximately 1:15 p.m. on March 7, at Collins Road. Authorities confirmed that 58-year-old Doris L. Nichols, a resident of Louisiana, was driving a 2020 Honda CR-V westbound on LA Highway 6 when she attempted to make a left turn onto Collins Rd.
During the turn, a 2015 GMC 2500, driven by 45-year-old David Cross of Deville, failed to slow down and rear-ended Nichols’ vehicle. The impact forced the Honda CR-V into the eastbound lane, where it was struck by a 2000 Ford truck.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene and found that Nichols had suffered fatal injuries. She was pronounced dead at the scene despite wearing her seat belt. The driver of the Ford truck sustained moderate injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment, while Cross was not injured.
Authorities are continuing their investigation into the crash. Toxicology samples have been submitted for analysis, and officials have not yet determined whether distracted or inattentive driving played a role in the collision.
Our heartfelt sympathies go out to the family and friends of Doris L. Nichols during this difficult time, and we hope for the swift recovery of those injured.
Fatal Traffic Accidents in Louisiana
Tragic accidents like the one on LA Highway 6 highlight the dangers of distracted and inattentive driving. Rear-end collisions, especially at high speeds, can have deadly consequences, particularly when they force vehicles into oncoming traffic. Louisiana’s highways see numerous serious crashes each year, many of which result from drivers failing to pay attention to traffic conditions.
According to the Louisiana State Police, inattentiveness behind the wheel is one of the leading causes of fatal crashes across the state. Even a momentary lapse in awareness can lead to devastating accidents.
For families affected by fatal accidents, the emotional and financial burdens can be overwhelming. Funeral costs, medical expenses, and the loss of a loved one’s income and support can create significant challenges. In cases where another driver’s negligence contributed to a crash, families may have legal options to seek justice and compensation.
If you or a loved one has been affected by a serious accident, seeking professional guidance can be crucial. For more information or to receive help after an accident, contact Local Accident Reports.
