Rio Oso, CA (March 9, 2025) – A fatal two-vehicle crash occurred on Highway 70 in Sutter County on Saturday afternoon, leaving one man dead and a woman injured.
The collision happened at approximately 2:48 p.m. when a 49-year-old man from Olivehurst was driving a Jeep Patriot eastbound on Berry Road. According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the driver stopped at a stop sign before attempting to cross the intersection. At the same time, a Ford F-150 driven by a 30-year-old woman from Winnemucca, Nevada, was traveling northbound on Highway 70. The two vehicles collided, causing both to veer off the roadway and crash into a stop sign pole and a light pole.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene, but the driver of the Jeep Patriot was pronounced dead at the site of the crash. The driver of the Ford sustained moderate injuries and was transported to a local hospital for medical treatment.
Authorities confirmed that neither driver was suspected of being under the influence of drugs or alcohol. The cause of the crash remains under investigation as officials work to determine the exact circumstances leading up to the collision.
