Mayville, MI (March 8, 2025) – Two individuals were taken to the hospital following a serious crash in Lapeer County on Thursday morning.
According to the Lapeer County Sheriff’s Office, the crash occurred on M-24, south of Millington Road. A 26-year-old woman from Lapeer was driving a Dodge Ram northbound when she lost control of her vehicle, crossing the center line and colliding sideways with a Ford Ranger heading south.
The 43-year-old male driver of the Ranger attempted to avoid the collision by steering toward the shoulder. However, the vehicles collided, causing the Ranger to roll onto its side in a nearby farm field.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene to find the driver of the Ranger unresponsive. He was transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. The driver of the Ram also sustained injuries, though they were not life-threatening. She was also taken to the hospital for medical treatment.
The Lapeer County Sheriff’s Office indicated that preliminary investigation results suggest that light snow and wind may have contributed to the crash. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities have not yet released additional details about the incident.
Our thoughts are with those affected by this crash, and we hope for a full and swift recovery for the victims.
Roadway Hazards in Michigan
Michigan roadways, particularly in rural areas like Mayville, are often impacted by weather conditions, including snow and wind, which can create hazardous driving environments. Drivers must remain vigilant, especially in the winter months, when these conditions can lead to loss of control, slippery roads, and poor visibility.
According to Michigan State Police, winter weather is a significant contributor to traffic accidents each year. It is critical for drivers to adjust their speed and driving habits based on the road conditions to avoid accidents, particularly on rural roads.
Michigan operates under a no-fault insurance system, which means that drivers must seek compensation from their own insurance companies following an accident. However, individuals who suffer serious injuries may be eligible to pursue additional compensation for medical expenses, lost wages, and pain and suffering from the at-fault driver.
