Newport, DE (March 7, 2025) – Emergency crews responded to a motor vehicle accident involving entrapment Thursday afternoon near the intersection of West Basin Rd and the I-95 northbound onramp.
The crash was reported at approximately 1:34 p.m., prompting a response from New Castle County Paramedics, the Minquas Fire Company of Newport, and other mutual aid fire companies. Upon arrival, first responders found one individual trapped inside a vehicle, requiring extrication efforts.
Fire department personnel successfully freed the trapped occupant within 10 minutes. Emergency medical teams assessed two individuals at the scene. A 67-year-old male, who had been trapped, was treated for possible chest injuries and transported in stable condition to Christiana Hospital in Stanton. A second individual, a 66-year-old male, was evaluated at the scene but declined transport to the hospital.
Authorities temporarily closed Route 141 NB as emergency teams worked to assist the injured and clear the accident. The Delaware State Police are investigating the cause of the crash.
