Lapel, IN (March 7, 2025) – A fatal two-vehicle crash near Lapel High School on Thursday morning left two people dead and two others seriously injured, according to the Madison County Sheriff’s Department.

The crash occurred at approximately 9:50 a.m. at the intersection of County Road 200 South and County Road 825 West. An initial investigation by the Sheriff’s Department Accident Investigation Team found that a 2009 Nissan Xterra, traveling southbound, failed to yield at a stop sign and entered the path of a westbound 2015 Jeep Wrangler.

The Jeep, driven by an 18-year-old man, came to rest in a nearby farm field. The driver was not injured. However, the Nissan Xterra had four adult occupants. The 49-year-old male driver and a 49-year-old male rear passenger died in the crash.

Madison County Coroner Adam Matson identified one of the deceased as Mikels Savostins of Indianapolis. The second deceased victim passed away in Marion County.

Two female passengers in the Nissan, a 55-year-old woman in the front passenger seat and a 51-year-old woman in the rear seat, suffered serious injuries. They were airlifted to hospitals in Indianapolis for further treatment. Their conditions remain undisclosed.

Authorities continue to investigate the crash. Further updates may be provided as officials complete their review.

Our thoughts are with the victims, their families, and all those affected by this tragic accident.

Deadly Intersection Accidents in Indiana

Intersection crashes are among the most common and dangerous types of accidents, often leading to severe injuries or fatalities. Failing to yield at stop signs is a major contributing factor to these incidents. According to the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT), many serious crashes occur at rural intersections where visibility and right-of-way misjudgments lead to high-impact collisions.

Victims of severe accidents may require extensive medical treatment, rehabilitation, and financial assistance. Understanding legal rights and available resources is crucial for those affected by such incidents.

If you or a loved one has been impacted by a fatal crash, knowing your rights and available support options is essential.
