Roxboro, NC (March 6, 2025) – A tragic crash involving a cement truck claimed the life of a woman and injured a child at the intersection of North Main St and Providence Rd on Tuesday afternoon.
The Roxboro Police Department reported that the accident occurred shortly after 3 p.m. when a cement truck collided with a passenger car. According to witness statements, the truck failed to stop for a red light and struck the car as it was turning off Providence Rd.
The driver of the car, identified as 77-year-old Jannie Lipscomb of Timberlake, was pronounced dead at the scene. A child who was also in the vehicle was transported to a local hospital with injuries. The extent of the child’s injuries has not been disclosed.
Police arrested the cement truck driver, 43-year-old Marcus Smith, charging him with misdemeanor death by motor vehicle and failure to stop at a red light.
Authorities are continuing their investigation into the incident.
