Midland, TX (March 6, 2025) – A tragic crash claimed the life of a Midland man and left four others injured, according to a report from Sergeant Steven Blanco with the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS).

Authorities stated that 22-year-old Pedro Lopez was driving a 2014 Ford Mustang northbound on County Road (CR) 1140 when he failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection with Business-20. His vehicle collided with a 2020 Ford Fusion driven by 38-year-old Gregory Boyd, who was traveling eastbound at the time of the crash.

The impact of the collision pushed Lopez’s vehicle into the eastbound lane, where it was struck by a 2003 Chevrolet Suburban. Emergency responders arrived at the scene and transported 18-year-old Osmar Guerrero, a passenger in Lopez’s vehicle, to Midland Memorial Hospital. Sadly, Guerrero succumbed to his injuries and passed away on Tuesday.

All individuals involved in the crash were reported to be wearing seatbelts. Authorities continue to investigate the incident, and no further details have been released at this time.

Our thoughts are with the victims and their families during this difficult time.

The Dangers of Stop Sign Violations in Texas

Intersections, particularly those with stop signs, are common sites for severe crashes. Accidents caused by failure to yield or disregarding stop signs often result in high-speed collisions, increasing the likelihood of serious injuries or fatalities. In rural areas like Midland County, intersections without traffic signals can be especially hazardous when drivers fail to adhere to right-of-way laws.

According to the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), intersection-related crashes are among the leading causes of fatalities on Texas roadways. Common contributing factors include distracted driving, speeding, and driver misjudgment of cross-traffic speeds.

In the aftermath of an intersection collision, injured parties should seek immediate medical attention and document the scene if possible. Texas follows a modified comparative fault system, meaning accident victims may be eligible for compensation if they are found to be less than 51% responsible for the crash. Consulting with a legal professional can help victims and their families understand their rights and options.
