Trenton, NJ (March 4, 2025) – A devastating three-vehicle crash caused by a wrong-way driver left multiple people injured early Sunday morning on Route 29 near the Calhoun Street exit.
According to Trenton police, the collision occurred at approximately 4:20 a.m. when a 60-year-old woman from Burlington Township, driving a Toyota SUV, was traveling south in the northbound lanes of Route 29. The wrong-way vehicle violently collided with a Jeep Gladiator driven by a 33-year-old Trenton man. The impact sent the Gladiator into another lane, where it was rear-ended by a Jeep Cherokee driven by a 24-year-old Trenton resident.
Both Jeeps overturned multiple times before coming to a stop. The Jeep Gladiator’s engine caught fire, trapping the driver inside. However, an unknown good Samaritan bravely pulled the unconscious man from the burning wreck before emergency crews arrived.
Trenton police, fire, and EMS teams responded to the scene and found catastrophic damage, including one vehicle fully engulfed in flames. The Gladiator driver was transported to a local hospital but was later released. The Cherokee driver managed to escape his overturned vehicle on his own.
Firefighters worked to free the Toyota driver, who suffered life-threatening injuries. She was transported to Capital Health Regional Medical Center in critical condition with multiple injuries.
Trenton Police Detective Vincent Gribbin, along with the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office Serious Collision Response Team, is conducting an ongoing investigation into the crash.
Our thoughts are with those injured in this accident, and we hope for their full recovery.
