Miami, FL (March 4, 2025) – A Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) trooper sustained injuries after being struck by a vehicle while responding to a separate crash on Interstate 95 in Miami-Dade County on Tuesday.
The initial crash occurred in the southbound lanes of I-95 near the I-195 interchange. As the trooper was outside their marked cruiser investigating the scene, the driver of a green Mercedes-Benz veered off the highway, colliding with the FHP vehicle. The impact caused the cruiser to strike the trooper, resulting in minor injuries.
Miami-Dade Fire Rescue transported the injured trooper to Jackson Memorial Hospital for treatment. Authorities have not provided details about the crash the trooper had initially been investigating.
FHP has not confirmed whether charges will be filed against the Mercedes-Benz driver. An investigation into the incident remains ongoing.
Our thoughts are with the injured trooper, and we wish them a full and speedy recovery.
Crashes Involving Emergency Responders in Florida
Accidents involving law enforcement officers and emergency responders occur frequently, particularly on high-speed roadways like I-95. Florida’s “Move Over” law requires drivers to change lanes or slow down when approaching stopped emergency vehicles to reduce the risk of secondary collisions.
Despite these laws, crashes involving first responders continue to happen due to driver inattention, speeding, or failure to yield. Roadside accidents like this one highlight the dangers officers and emergency personnel face while performing their duties.
Victims of roadway accidents—whether law enforcement officers or civilians—often face significant recovery challenges, including medical expenses, lost income, and long-term rehabilitation. Understanding legal rights and available resources is essential for those injured due to driver negligence.
