Mequon, WI (March 3, 2025) – Two residents were hospitalized after a fire broke out in their apartment Sunday afternoon in the 10000 block of N. Ivy Court, according to local authorities.
The fire, which caused significant damage, left several apartments uninhabitable due to smoke, fire, and water damage. One of the injured individuals, an elderly woman, suffered second-degree burns while attempting to extinguish the flames. Both victims were transported to a local hospital for treatment.
The Southern Ozaukee Fire Department (SOFD) reported that two sisters lived in the apartment. One of them noticed the fire and alerted the other, who sustained burns while trying to put it out. Firefighters also searched for a cat and a parrot that were inside the apartment, but their whereabouts remain unknown.
Due to the potential need for large-scale evacuations, authorities called for a second box-alarm level, bringing in additional fire department resources through the Mutual Aid Box Alarm System (MABAS). Fire officials also noted that the building’s sprinkler system was only present in the hallways and basement.
An investigation is underway to determine the cause of the fire.
Our thoughts are with those affected, and we hope for a full recovery for the injured individuals.
