Summit, AZ (February 1, 2025) – A tragic car accident early Friday morning claimed the life of a 17-year-old girl and left another individual injured in Summit, according to the Pima County Sheriff’s Department (PCSD).
Deputies responded to reports of a crash at approximately 4:30 a.m. on January 31 near East Summit St and South Camino Casitas. When they arrived, they discovered a Honda Civic that had veered off the road, struck a block wall, and rolled onto its passenger side.
The passenger, a 17-year-old female, was pronounced dead at the scene, while the driver was transported to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Authorities have not released the identities of those involved.
Preliminary investigations suggest that speed, impairment, and lack of seatbelt use may have contributed to the crash. The PCSD Traffic Unit is continuing to investigate the incident.
Our deepest condolences go out to the family and friends of the victim during this difficult time.
Deadly Car Accidents in Arizona
Fatal crashes like the one on E Summit St and S Camino Casitas highlight the dangers of speeding, impaired driving, and not wearing seatbelts. According to the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT), there were over 1,000 fatal traffic accidents across the state last year. Many of these incidents involved factors such as reckless driving, alcohol impairment, or failure to follow traffic safety measures.
Teen drivers and passengers are particularly vulnerable to serious injuries in crashes. Studies show that seatbelt use significantly reduces the risk of fatal injuries in a collision. Additionally, driving at excessive speeds or under the influence of drugs or alcohol greatly increases the likelihood of losing control of a vehicle.
When a fatal accident occurs, families may seek legal options to hold responsible parties accountable. In cases where negligence, reckless driving, or impaired driving played a role, surviving family members may pursue wrongful death claims to cover medical expenses, funeral costs, and emotional suffering.
If you or a loved one has been impacted by a fatal crash in Arizona, it is important to understand your legal rights. Speaking with a professional can help ensure that you receive the guidance and support you need.
