Hudson, NC (March 1, 2025) – A tragic moped accident resulted in the death of a rider following a collision with a vehicle on Cajah Mountain Road near Stamey Road in Caldwell County on Friday afternoon.
According to reports from the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, the crash occurred at approximately 3:40 p.m. A Kia Spectra, traveling eastbound on Cajah Mountain Rd, failed to reduce speed and collided with a moped that was slowing down to make a turn onto Stamey Rd.
The moped driver, identified as 68-year-old James Williams, was ejected from his vehicle upon impact. He sustained severe injuries and tragically died while being transported to the hospital.
The driver of the Kia, 38-year-old David Hicks, was not injured in the crash. Authorities charged him with misdemeanor death by vehicle and failure to reduce speed.
Investigators confirmed that impairment was not a contributing factor in the collision. The incident remains under investigation by local authorities.
