Unity Twp, PA (February 28, 2025) – A woman has died, and a man remains hospitalized following a rollover crash Thursday afternoon on Route 30 in Unity Township near Loyalhanna.
Emergency crews were dispatched to the scene after reports of an SUV that had overturned onto its roof and landed down an embankment. Upon arrival, responders found the vehicle with two occupants trapped inside after it struck a tree and flipped over.
Authorities identified the individuals as Eugene and Barbara Kravitz, both over the age of 75. Emergency personnel worked to extricate the pair before transporting them to a local hospital. Sadly, Barbara Kravitz was pronounced dead due to her injuries, while Eugene Kravitz remains hospitalized. Officials believe Eugene, who was driving, may have suffered a medical emergency before the crash, though an investigation is ongoing.
Our thoughts are with the Kravitz family during this difficult time, and we extend our condolences to all affected.
Medical Emergencies Behind the Wheel and Crash Prevention
Medical emergencies while driving can be extremely dangerous, as they may cause a sudden loss of control, leading to severe crashes like the one on Route 30. Conditions such as heart attacks, strokes, or diabetic episodes can impair a driver’s ability to react in time, increasing the likelihood of high-impact collisions or rollovers.
For older drivers or those with medical conditions, regular health check-ups and discussions with doctors about driving safety can help prevent such incidents. In some cases, warning signs like dizziness, blurred vision, or shortness of breath may indicate the need to pull over and seek assistance before an accident occurs.
Rollover crashes, like this one, often result in serious injuries or fatalities due to the force of impact and the difficulty of escaping from an overturned vehicle. Wearing seat belts, maintaining proper tire pressure, and driving cautiously—especially in high-speed areas—can help reduce the risks associated with rollover accidents.
For families affected by tragic accidents, seeking support from professionals can help in navigating medical expenses, insurance claims, and legal considerations.
