Arlington, WA (February 26, 2025) – A deadly head-on collision shut down both directions of State Route 530 at 251st Place Northeast on Tuesday morning. Washington State Patrol (WSP) Trooper Kelsey Harding confirmed that two vehicles were involved in the crash, which resulted in at least one fatality.
Authorities diverted westbound traffic to 115th Street and eastbound traffic to Arlington Heights Road as troopers investigated the scene. Despite wet and windy conditions overnight, the WSP stated that weather was not a factor in the collision. Witnesses reported possible aggressive driving, but officials have not yet determined an official cause.
Investigators expect the road closure to last for an extended period. Drivers in the area were urged to use patience and seek alternate routes.

Head-on Collisions in Washington State
Head-on crashes are among the most dangerous types of accidents, often leading to severe injuries or fatalities. These incidents commonly occur due to lane departures caused by speeding, reckless driving, or driver distraction. On highways like SR-530, where high speeds and limited passing zones exist, even a brief lapse in attention can result in devastating consequences.
Aggressive driving behaviors, such as tailgating, unsafe passing, or excessive speed, can increase the likelihood of a fatal collision. Law enforcement officials urge drivers to remain cautious, especially on roads with limited barriers between opposing lanes of traffic.
