Jefferson County, MO (February 26, 2025) – A three-vehicle crash on Interstate 55 left one man injured Tuesday evening, with one driver fleeing the scene.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the accident occurred at approximately 5:55 p.m. in the southbound lanes of I-55, just north of Richardson Road. A white Ford F-150, whose driver remains unidentified, was slowing in traffic in lane 3 when a 2009 Toyota Camry, driven by a 62-year-old man from Farmington, failed to stop in time and rear-ended the truck. The impact caused the Camry to swerve left, where it struck the right side of a 2023 Freightliner Cascadia traveling in lane 2.
Emergency responders from the Rock Township Ambulance District transported the Camry’s driver to Mercy Hospital South for treatment of injuries. The Freightliner’s driver, a 66-year-old man from Prairie, Mississippi, was uninjured and was able to drive his truck from the scene. The Camry sustained total damage and was towed by Ives Towing, while the F-150 fled before authorities could identify the driver.
Police are continuing their search for the hit-and-run driver. Anyone with information about the incident is encouraged to contact local law enforcement. Our thoughts are with the injured victim, and we wish him a full recovery.
Hit-and-Run Accidents in Missouri
Hit-and-run accidents pose a serious threat to public safety, leaving victims without immediate accountability for damages and injuries. Missouri law requires all drivers involved in an accident to remain at the scene and report the crash, especially if injuries or significant property damage occur. Fleeing an accident can result in severe legal consequences, including criminal charges.
Rear-end collisions, such as this one, are common in high-traffic areas like I-55, often resulting from distracted driving, speeding, or failure to maintain a safe following distance. When a driver leaves the scene, injured victims may face additional challenges in recovering compensation for medical expenses, vehicle damage, and lost wages.
If you or a loved one has been injured in a hit-and-run accident, legal guidance may help you secure the compensation you need. Seeking medical attention and gathering witness statements or surveillance footage can strengthen your case.
