Goshen Twp, OH (February 26, 2025) – A serious crash Wednesday morning on State Route 165 left a teenage passenger with critical injuries after being ejected from the vehicle, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
The accident occurred around 7:30 a.m. on West South Range Rd (SR 165), near State Route 635. Officials report that a 52-year-old woman was driving a 2004 Jeep Compass when she lost control, veering off the right side of the road. The vehicle struck a ditch, overturned, hit a tree, and then flipped again before coming to rest.
The 16-year-old passenger, a resident of Salem, was not wearing a seat belt and was thrown from the vehicle during the crash. Emergency responders provided immediate care before transporting the teen to Mercy Health Youngstown. Due to the severity of the injuries, the teen was later flown by helicopter to Akron Children’s Hospital in Akron for further treatment.
The driver, who was wearing a seat belt, refused treatment at the scene but later went to Mercy Health for evaluation.
Investigators cited multiple contributing factors, including unsafe speed, bald tires, and roadway conditions. Authorities temporarily closed SR 165 for about an hour to clear the wreckage before reopening the roadway.

Rollover Accidents in Ohio
Rollover accidents are among the most dangerous types of crashes, often resulting in severe or fatal injuries, especially when occupants are not wearing seat belts. In Ohio, road conditions, driver speed, and vehicle maintenance all play crucial roles in preventing these incidents.
According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, common causes of rollovers include:
- Speeding: Higher speeds increase the risk of losing control, especially on rural roads.
- Poor Vehicle Maintenance: Worn-out tires, faulty brakes, or mechanical issues can lead to loss of traction.
- Weather & Road Conditions: Wet, icy, or uneven roadways contribute to crashes when drivers fail to adjust their speed.
- Lack of Seat Belt Use: Unrestrained passengers are at a significantly higher risk of being ejected from a vehicle in a rollover crash.
This tragic accident highlights the importance of vehicle safety checks and seat belt use. Ensuring that tires are properly maintained and that all passengers are secured can drastically reduce the likelihood of severe injuries in the event of a crash.
