Tampa, FL (February 26, 2025) – A pedestrian suffered serious injuries Tuesday night after being struck by an off-duty Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office deputy in Tampa, according to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP).
The crash occurred around 9:00 p.m. when Deputy Jesus Manuel Nieves, 26, was driving his marked Chevy Tahoe. As he turned south onto Memorial Highway from eastbound Hillsborough Avenue, he struck a 30-year-old man who was attempting to cross the road.
Nieves immediately stopped and provided medical aid to the injured pedestrian until paramedics arrived. The man was then transported to a local hospital for treatment of serious injuries. Authorities have not yet released his name.
The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office acknowledged the incident in a statement, emphasizing that community safety remains a top priority and expressing well wishes for the injured victim. The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.
